Angry Nigerian senators from the opposition political parties today, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, gave President Muhammadu Buhari six weeks to solve the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria or face impeachment.

The ultimatum notice was made public after members of the Minority Caucus in the Senate staged a walk out from the chambers on Wednesday.

First, the angry senators protested against the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who reportedly refused to allow the lawmakers commence an impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.

So, the opposition Senators, across party lines, resolved to address journalists today on their decision to give Buhari six weeks to end the insecurity in the country or face impeachment.

The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Phillip Aduda, had moved a point of order seeking to discuss insecurity on the floor of the Senate but Lawan ruled him out of order.

Then, led by Aduda, the Senators staged a walkout from the chambers.

Addressing newsmen, the senators said: “All we are saying, Buhari must go.”

So at the closed session we agreed that we will give the President an ultimatum failing which we will move to give an impeachment notice.

“This was our agreement at the executive session but when we came out, the Senate President refused to inform the public of our resolution.

“Since that didn’t happen, we have come here in protest to let Nigerians Know that we are with them.

“That we are worried, so we staged a walkout from the chambers to register that the security in Nigeria is out of hand and urgent steps need to be taken so that the issues are addressed immediately.

“We have come here to say that we have passed so many resolutions on security, we have given all the support and all the enabling appropriation that they need.”

Among other prominent senators that joined the protest include Senator Muhammed Bulkachuwa, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and Buhari’s senator, Ahmad Babba Kaita.
