At last, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu representing the Federal Government of Nigeria and the 36 State Governors, has agreed on creation of State Police and Forest Guards to help resolve insecurity in the country.
This is part of the agreements reached on Thursday at the Council Chamber of Aso Rock Village, Abuja, where President Tinubu met with the governors of the 36 states in Nigeria, under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Information and National Orientation Minister, Idris Mohammed, said “the meeting considered how to enhance forest rangers’ numerical strength as well as exploring the possibility of State Police.”
NewsOrient reports that over the years, concerned Nigerians have canvassed for creation of State Police as part of the practical ways of tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
With the outcome of the meeting, observers say, if carefully implemented, with well conceived legal backing, the emergence of well equipped State Police and Forest Guards will mark a new era in Nigeria’s security system.
