The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has given notice that it will hold a two-day nationwide protest over the extreme hardship currently experienced by Nigerians.

Another reason the Congress gave for the planned protest is the deteriorating security situation in the country.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday after an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union, said the protest will begin a week after the expiration of the 14 day ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government which will expire on February 23.

So, it is planned that the nationwide protest will take place on February 27 and 28, 2024.

It would be recalled that on February 8, 2024, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) accused the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria of failing to uphold the pledges it made to soften the harsh impact of the government’s reforms.

The organised labour unions therefore gave a two-week ultimatum to the government to meet their demands, which include wage increments and reforms that will lessen hunger and hardship.
