By Kelechi Eke
As the drama of former Nigeria’s President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s membership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and his plan to contest the 2023 Presidential Election on its ticket continues to unfold, the National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the party, Salihu Lukman, has denied Jonathan’s membership of APC.
The Punch quoted Lukman of making this disclosure in a telephone chat, said described media reports of jonathan’s emergence as APC’s consensus candidate as “speculative.”
He said “It is not going to be possible. Anybody who is talking about it is just talking nonsense.”
The paper also quoted Lukman as saying, “Jonathan is not a member of APC as far as we know. Besides, our membership in the political party is not a secret.”
Coming shortly after a Federal High Court, sitting in Bayelsa State, ruled that Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2023 Presidential Election, the issue of the former president’s interest in the coming election has again become a major source of debate.
