Insecurity: Ohanaeze Hails Southwest Governors Over Amotekun

By Our Reporter

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Southwest zone has praised Southwest states governors over their proactive way of tackling insecurity, especially their mature and bold handling of Amotekun, the indeginous security outfit they established to secure the Southwest.

A communique signed by the Southwest President of Ohanaeze, Chief Mattew Nwakwo, after the regional meeting of the organization held at Eze Gilbert Achi Palace in Ilesa, Osun, said:

“Ohanaeze South West appreciates the governors of the Southwest on their efforts in curbing criminality, banditry and touting which has enhanced a serene atmosphere for the Igbos and residents to do their businesses, especially the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his efforts in nipping in the bud the incessant illegal taxes/extortion by residents in Lagos State, especially in Alaba International Market.

“Special thanks go to the Chairman of the South West Governor’s Forum, His Excellency, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State and all other South West Governors for sustaining and encouraging the activities of Amotekun Corps in the South West region which has drastically reduced the rate of crime and criminality in the region.”

Reacting to the position of Ohanaeze Southwest, Chief Uzoma Ogbonna told NewsOrient that “the boldness of Southwest governors and the unity with which they are tackling insecurity in their region is worthy of emulation.

This is unlike Southeast states, where the governors and the people are still exchanging blames over insecurity and how to tackle it as a region. We can all see and we admire the fact that Southwest governors have been united on this sensitive issue and as a result they have received overwhelming support of their people to fund, arm and run Amotekun effectively.
