The boardroom of the magnificent COSON House In Ikeja was on Wednesday 22nd May, 2024 filled to the brim and burstiling with activities as the executives of Artistes Managers Association In Nigeria (AMAN) stormed the headquarters of Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization(COSON) on a visit.

The AMAN team, led by its President Mr Collins Enebeli and the Global spokesperson Duchess Karifest Onyekaah accompanied by a large group of young creative artistes where received by COSON’s chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji and General manager, Mrs Bernice Eriemeghe Ashigbogwu.

Speaking at the event, the AMAN President, said they decided to come to COSON House because of the critical role that COSON has played and continues to play in the development of the creative industry.

He paid glowing tribute to COSON chairman for his continuous commitment to making the Nigerian creative industry a huge success, tracing back to Chief Okoroji’s unforgettable tenure as president of PMAN, his development of the unbeatable Nigerian Music Awards and his promotion of excellent standards in the Nigerian creative industry.

The COSON chairman gave a major lecture on copyright and intellectual property to his guests during the visit. He emphasized that without the protection of the intellectual property of a creative person, a creative genius is likely to die in penury.

Okoroji spoke at length on the famous COSON mantra, ‘Let the music pay!’, and said that everything COSON does, is to promote that mantra. In his words, ‘ the music should not just play, it has to pay’.

The chairman took so many questions on the operations of COSON, especially on membership of COSON, licensing and collection of royalties, distribution and welfare of members. The chairman said that his proudest moment was during the Covid 19 epidemic, when the members of COSON where stranded all over rthe country with no work and COSON had to distribute millions of naira across the country to it members to help them manage the rough situation.

Similarly in November 2023, COSON distributed millions of naira once again to it’s members as palliative to deal with the present economic downturn.
