Abduction Of Train Passengers: NRC Blames Saboteurs
The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has blamed saboteurs for repeated attacks on trains and rail stations in Nigeria. The Corporation’s comments come in the heels of Saturday’s abduction of intending passengers at its train station in Igueben, Edo State.
NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria made the comment on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme while reacting to the recent attack on rail passengers in Nigeria. Calling for a holistic security solution, he said Nigerian government should ensure that security covers everyone and not just train stations and passengers.
“We cannot just say we are deploying to rail and the other systems in Nigeria should be left out; it should be holistic,” said.
Asked if the attack was made possible by the Corporation’s weak security arrangements, he said, “We planned but we also have people who are trying to sabotage our efforts.
It would be recalled that about 31 intending passengers were kidnapped on Saturday afternoon when gunmen attacked a train station in Edo State.
As at the time of filing this report, Police said it have rescued about six of the abductees.
