As Buhari Bids Final Goodbye, FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday In His Honour

Following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s final exit, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday public holidays in his honour.

The former Nigerian President who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a hospital in London, is expected to be buried in his hometown Daura in Katsina State on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the holiday is furtherance to the seven days of national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The statement said the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government following the approval of His Excellency, President Tinubu.

Earlier, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, announced the burial arrangements for the former Nigerian President.

At a press briefing, the Katsina State Governor said following consultations with the late president’s family and close associates in London, it has been agreed that the remains of the former leader would arrive in Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by noon.

He added that the burial would take place in Daura, the hometown of the late president, by 2pm on the same day.
