Breaking: INEC Postpones Governorship, State Assembly Elections
- Now To Hold A Week Later, March 18, 2023
By Kelechi Eke
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed by one week the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 11.
The electoral umpire said the elections will now hold on March 18, 2023.
INEC made its decision known in a statement on Wednesday night, after a crucial meeting that commenced around 7pm.
INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education, Festus Okoye, said clearly that the elections will now hold on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
It would be recalled that the legal battle over INEC’s request to reconfigure BIVAS amidst requests by Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party to inspect the vital machine’s data ahead of their petition against announced results of the Presidential Election has left doubts as to the possibility of Governorship Election postponement.
