The Nigerian Senate has told suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, that she could not resume office until the matter between her and the Senate is concluded in court.

This is notwithstanding that the lawmaker has completed the six-months suspension the Senate placed on her at the peak of her altercations and disagreements with the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

In a letter, dated September 4, 2025, the Acting Clerk, National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, said “the Senate acknowledged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intended return on September 4,” the date she said marked the end of her suspension.

But according to the Senate, Natasha’s six-month suspension remains in force pending the outcome of a Court of Appeal case instituted against the Senate by Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter from Senate reads in part.

This suggests that the Senate has resolved not to review Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension until after the court’s judgement on the matter between Uduaghan and the Senate.
