Ahead of the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election in the State.

Announcing the result of the primary election earlier today (Sunday), the APC Returning Officer and Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, declared Ukachukwu as the party’s flag bearer. The governor described Ukachukwu as “the lion of APC in Anambra State.”

According to the result announced by Gov Otu, Prince Ukachukwu won the party’s ticket with a landslide victory, having garnered 1,455 votes, with the runner up, Valentine Ozigbo, recording just
67 votes, followed by Johnbosco Onunkwo with 26 votes and Edozie Madu trailing with 8 votes.

Also, 27 votes were declared invalid.

Meanwhile, the Anambra APC Governorship Primary Election has been described by some critics as ‘controversial.’ The election lasted dragged from Saturday 5th day of April 2025 to almost 5am this morning, Sunday, 6th day of April 2025.

Also, the controversy could be traced to sudden withdrawal of some top aspirants in the primary election before the election.

The aspirants who withdrew from the race in very controversial circumstances include Sir Paul Chukwuma from Umueri in Anambra North, who also resigned his membership of APC, Chukwuma Umeoji from Aguata and Prof Obiora Okonkwo.

The total number of delegates was 1630, but 1582 were accredited.
