Nigeria’s Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) today, September 6, 2023, dismissed the petitions filed by Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and his party against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Election in the 2023 Presidential Election.

Ruling on the issue of who won Nigeria’s 2023 Presidential Election, the tribunal said the evidences presented by Peter Obi “did not prove he won the Presidential Election.”

They also held that Vice President Kashim Shettima was eligible to contest the election, stating that the double nomination case against Shettima “is incompetent.”

In it’s judgment monitored today by NewsOrient Network, the judges held, among others, that “Tinubu is academically qualified to contest for President.”

The tribunal also held that the fraud case against Tinubu “was not proven.”

On the drug charge against President Tinubu, the court ruled that Tinubu “was cleared of drug related crimes in the US.”

On the 25% votes petition for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the tribunal held that residents in Abuja “are not special” and therefore getting “25% votes in FCT is not necessary to become President of Nigeria.”

On the issue of how the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) abandoned the electronic means it promised the voters and resorted to manual transmission midway, the tribunal ruled that “INEC is at liberty to choose its method of transmitting results.”
