Tinubu Scraps Niger Delta And Sports Ministries, Reshuffles Cabinet

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has scraped the Ministry of Niger Delta Development and Ministry of Sports, even as he sacked five of his ministers.

These are highlights of the changes he made in the cabinet reshuffle his office announced today, Wednesday 23rd October 2024.

He also merged some ministries.

The cabinet reshuffle was made public through a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

The ministers sacked are: Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye; Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman; Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamilla Bio Ibrahim; Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo.

The statement from the Presidency said in part: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has approved the immediate implementation of eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant of his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.

Among the ministers re-assigned to new portfolios are: Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu formerly Minister of State for, Education now Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, formely Minister State, Health, now Minister of Education; while Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo formerly Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation is now Minister of State Works.

Others are Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh formerly Minister of Niger Delta Development but now Minister of Regional Development; Uba Maigari Ahmadu formerly Minister of State Steel Development but now Minister of State Regional Development; Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite formerly Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, now Minister of State Finance.

In the same vein, Sen. John Owan Enoh formerly Minister of Sports Development, is now Minister of State Trade and Investment [Industry]; Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim formerly Minister of State, Police Affairs but now Minister of Women; Affairs; Ayodele Olawande formerly Minister of State for Youth Development is now Minister for Youth Development; while Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye formerly Minister of State, Environment, is now Minister of State for Health.

All the new appointments take immediate effect.”
