Terrorists Ambush, Attack Buhari’s Advance Security Convoy

Terrorist attacks of Nigerians took a new dimension on Tuesday, when gunmen, suspected to be terrorists, ambushed and attacked the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team of security guards and other officials, near Dutsinma, in Buhari’s home state of Katsina.

The Presidency, which confirmed the attack on the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura in Katsina State for Sallah, described the incident as “sad and regrettable.”

The Presidency said the attackers were repelled by security agents, adding that two persons in the convoy were injured.

Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu, in a statement on Tuesday night stated that “the attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”

The attack on presidential convoy comes shortly after another attack in the same  Dutsinma, in which terrorists killed the Police Area Commander of Dutsinma, Katsina State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aminu Umar.

It was reported that the Area Commander was killed in a gun battle with the terrorists in Zakka forest, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, also on Tuesday.
