I Have Not Committed Any Offence To Warrant Impeachment – Gov Fubara
There is confusion in Rivers State this morning as strange fire outbreak, which started yesterday night, is curiously followed by commencement of an impeachment proceedings by the state lawmakers against the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
NewsOrient learnt that the crisis, which insiders attributed to an intricate power play yet to be fully explained, came to public notice when a strange fire that razed some parts of the Rivers State House of Assembly was alleged to be an arson.
To worsen the situation, some stakeholders at the House alleged that the Sunday night fire is traceable to the State Governor or River State Government House.
According to the stakeholders, it was the State House of Assembly Leader, Hon. Edison Ehie from Ahoada East that actually supervised the alleged arson for and on behalf of the Rivers State Government House.
So, the lawmakers decided to hold an emergency sitting this Monday morning at the House auditorium since the hallowed chambers was burnt down Sunday night.
At the sitting, House Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, expressed sadness at the alleged arson and the claim that the incident was supervised by the Government House and Hon Ehie.
After a brief deliberation on the allegation, the state lawmakers promptly removed the Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Edison Ehie, and commenced an impeachment proceeding against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
It is said that as at this morning, 24 members of the House had already signed for the impeachment of the state governor but greater confusion set in when Governor Fubara stormed the State House of Assembly to confront the lawmakers while their sitting was still ongoing.
A source told NewsOrient that “Governor Fubara’s arrival at the Rivers State House of Assembly was announced by loud siren blasts, gunshots and tear gas shots which forced the lawmakers to run away for their dear lives.”
After the frightened lawmakers had either ran away or taken cover, Gov Fubara told newsmen present that he has not committed any offence to warrant impeachment.
