Stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the results of Rivers State Local Government Elections conducted yesterday (Saturday) by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) across the 23 councils.

The exercise, according to a report monitored on Channels Television, was held in 6,866 polling units in the 319 wards of Rivers State.

NewsOrient reports that when the results are finally declared, the winners are expected to produce elected Local Government Chairpersons and Councilors, expected to replace the current Council Administrators appointed in April 2025.

It should be noted that this election, which was a source of heated controversy, is finally held about six months after the Supreme Court upturned the Council Elections RSIEC conducted on October 5, 2024.

According to it’s report, Channels Television monitored the election on Saturday in different areas of the state, including Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor Metropolis, and Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

It observed that “the exercise was largely peaceful.”

This is notwithstanding earlier apprehensions.
