Following today’s closed door meeting between Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party and People’s Democratic Party’s Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, there have been wide speculations over 2027 Presidential election alliances in Nigeria.

Although after the meeting, both Peter Obi and Governor Bala Mohammed said the reason behind Obi’s visit to the PDP governor was just to condole with the governor and the state over “many loses,” discuss crucial national issues, Nigeria’s unity and future development, NewsOrient reports that 2027 Presidential Election and possible alliances ahead of the race are some of the most likely issues also discussed by the political leaders.

Some observers of political happenings in the near future who spoke with NewsOrient after the meeting also said 2027 Presidential Election must be top in the agenda.

Kehinde Olugbenga for example told NewsOrient that “it is becoming increasingly clear that PDP is making strong effort to ensure return of Peter Obi to the party ahead of 2027. What may not be clear now is who the party would want to pair him with in the 2027 Presidential race. Today’s meeting shows that negotiations are ongoing.”

Another observer, Chief Nkemdirim Udo, told NewsOrient: “Today’s meeting shows that the politics of 2027 election has fully commenced. Looking at the development in Labour Party, Peter Obi may have decided to consider other platforms. Whether PDP will be his best bet is what I am still finding it difficult to conclude.”

Dignitaries who accompanied Obi include former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman.

During his visit to Bauchi, Obi also paid homage to the Emir of Bauchi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu in his palace.
