The face-off between Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Uduaghan recorded a new twist today as some constituents of her Kogi Central Senatorial District submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan.
Recall that Natasha, who is currently embroiled in a trending face-off with Senate leadership which began with open disagreement over seat reallocation but degenerated so much that Senator Natasha Uduaghan openly and formally accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual advances and sexual harassment. As a result of the face-off Natasha was suspended for serving as the lawmaker representing the senatorial district in the National Assembly for six months.
If the recall petition and process sail through, Natasha risks losing the seat permanently.
The recall petition, according to a report in Channels Television was “presented by one Charity Ijese, on behalf of the constituents.”
The report said it “was received at the INEC headquarters, by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Anthony, on Monday, March 24, 2025.”
The petition is titled, ‘Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence’.
The petitioning constituents said: “In particular, this petition for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is brought pursuant to Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), as well as INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall Petitions.”
“This petition arises from our loss of confidence in the Senator on the grounds of gross misconduct, abuse of office, evasion of due process, and a pattern of deceitful behaviour that has not only embarrassed the people of Kogi Central but has also tarnished the integrity of the Nigerian Senate and our nation’s democratic institutions.”
