NLC Links Development To It’s Stand On Recent Hunger Protest In Nigeria #EndBadGovernance
There is palpable fear in Nigeria as the Police invite Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, for interrogation over allegations of “terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime and other related offences.”
In it’s reaction to the development, NLC said the allegation and the invitation are linked to Ajaero’s and NLC’s position on the recent nationwide hunger protest in Nigeria, tagged #EndBadGovernnce.
Before NLC’s reaction, the police had warned that a warrant of arrest would be issued against Ajaero if he failed to honour the invitation to aid police investigation over the alleged offences.
The letter from the police, monitored through Channels Television reads: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated.
“You are therefore required to report to the undersigned for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at 10:00 hrs prompt, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader on telephone no 08035179870, in connection with the above investigation.
“Be informed that if you fail to honour this letter, this office will have no choice but to issue a warrant for your arrest.”
In a statement, also monitored through Channels Television, NLC’s Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Benson Upah, said the allegation and invitation are linked to the raid of the headquarters of the union shortly after the recent nationwide hunger protest, #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria.
NewsOrient recalls that Joe Ajaero-led NLC recently criticised the government and Police handling of the last Nigerian hunger protest. NLC had also, in a press conference called on the government and the Police to apologise to Nigerians.
