Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has said the task of resolving the current crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not an easy one, but he expressed confidence that if PDP stakeholders will do the right things now, the party can reclaim its leadership position in Nigeria.
Saraki, who while serving as Governor of Kwara State, was the Chairman of Governors Forum, said this after holding what observers described as “a strategic meeting” in Enugu State with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
The meeting, we learnt, “is part of the ongoing efforts by the Saraki-led PDP Strategy and Way Forward Committee to address the party’s internal crisis and chart a new course for its future.”
Saraki wrote in his Facebook page after the meeting: “We didn’t sidestep the issues. We confronted the fractures in our foundation, asked the hard questions, and began shaping a real, workable plan to move our party forward.”
He added: “I believe in the PDP. I believe in what it has stood for and what it can still become, if we’re willing to do the hard, unglamorous work of rebuilding from the inside out.”
Acknowledging the difficulties ahead, Saraki wrote: “The road ahead won’t be easy. It will test us and demand more from each of us. But I leave Enugu more convinced than ever: we have the people, the resolve, and the clarity to rise to the occasion—and to lead again.”
NewsOrient reports that other PDP chieftains who visited Enugu with Senator Saraki for the strategic meeting include Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo and Senator Seriake Dickson.
