The Rivers State House of Assembly, which resumed plenary on Thursday, 18th September 2025, following the expiration of the six months emergency rule declared in the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said it “will abide by the terms of the peace accord.”

The House called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who also resumed Thursday after the exit of former Sole Administrator, Retired Admiral Ibas, to present list of Commissioner nominees and budget for the remaining part of the year.

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, said at the plenary that the Assembly will formally write the governor to request the names of commissioner nominees and “a fresh budget proposal.”

Commending President Tinubu for restoring democracy in the state, Jack pledged that the Assembly would “abide by the terms of the peace accord and uphold the Constitution in the interest of peace and good governance.”

We recall that before yesterday’s sitting, the Rivers State House of Assembly last sat on March 12, a week before the emergency declaration.
