Relief As Nigerians Fleeing Ukraine Arrive From Romania

It was a moment of relief for many families as the first batch of Nigerian evacuees from Ukraine via Romania has arrived in Abuja Friday at 7.10 am.

They came by MaxAir, one of the airlines Nigerian government has slated to deploy for the evacuation.

This was announced by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on its Twitter handle.

The passengers, about 450 were airlifted from the Romania airport, landed at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 7:10 am.

Romania, Poland, and Hungary are safe zones for migrants fleeing from the war in Ukraine.

They are mostly students who fled Ukraine to Romania following Russia’s invasion.

In recent years, Ukraine has become one of the preferred destinations for Nigerians seeking to acquire knowledge in tertiary institutions.
