The Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State has finally commenced crude oil processing after many years of lying waste.

This development was announced by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Femi Soneye.

Soneye said on Tuesday: “Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing.

“This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.”

Soneye added: “Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future.!”

According to Soneye, truck loading will also commence on Tuesday (today). He added that the NNPCL is also “working tirelessly to bring the Warri Refinery back on line soon.”

NewsOrient reports that since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his inaugural speech, removed oil subsidy in 2023, average Nigerians have not ceased to complain over attendant high cost of petroleum products and indeed all consumer goods. The attendant hardship has been unimaginable.

Even the coming into stream of Dangote Refinery in Lagos earlier has not succeeded in bringing down the high costs.

So, average Nigerians are eager today to see how production at the Port Harcourt Refinery will ultimately impact on Nigeria and Nigerians.
