10th January 2025, NewsOrient, News, Governance And Development
Delegates from the seven Igbo speaking states in Nigeria that make up Ohanaeze Ndigbo will today, Friday, 10th January 2025, gather in Enugu State to elect a new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
This is amidst controversies and court orders that have created anxieties within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo organisation and the entire Igbo race.
The controversies notwithstanding, we learnt that the election will be held today at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State.
Going by the existing zoning arrangement in the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Rivers State will produce the President-General.
The elected President General will lead the new leadership that will also be elected today. The new leadership is expected to steer the cause of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the next four years.
According to some reports, Abia State is to produce the Deputy President-General.
Anambra State is to produce the Secretary-General.
Ebonyi State is to produce the National Legal Adviser.
Enugu State is to produce the National Treasurer.
Imo State is to produce the National Publicity Secretary.
Aside from these, each state, except Rivers and Abia, would also produce a Vice President.
Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu, the outgoing President-General, who hails from Imo State, has assured that today’s election will hold and that he would hand over power to a new leadership that would be led by a President-General from Rivers State.
It would be recalled that Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu completed the tenure of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and the late Prof. George Obiozor, two of who were from Imo State but died in office.
