Obi Receives Rousing Welcome At NBA Conference
Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate’s popularity and acceptance has again been openly and freely attested to.
This time, Obi received rousing welcome the moment he stepped into the venue of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference holding at the Eko Atlantic Hotel in Lagos.
Although lawyers are known for their conservative culture, Obi’s entry was greeted with what participants described as “screams and chants by many of the conference attendees who are mainly lawyers.”
It was another historic moment, a repeat of what has turned out to be a clear statement of teeming youths, organised professionals and unhindered would-be voters.
It is on record that since he joined the Labour Party as its presidential flag bearer, Obi has been receiving rousing welcome at public outings.
When Obi’s presence was made public, the crowd, in their millions, could not be controlled at the recently concluded Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Convention held on August 12, 2022.
A media report of the event said “Obi’s entry into the venue caused hysteria among the crowd who would not stop shouting, clapping and whistling with so much enthusiasm.”
This was exactly the same electrifying situation earlier at the Dunamis Church in Abuja when Peter Obi made an appearance during a night vigil programme of the church. There, the Church literally exploded as soon as Peter Obi’s name was announced and it took so much time and persuasion to control the audience who insisted on hailing and expressing seeminly endless open support.
By displaying the same passion at the ongoing NBA Conference, it can be said that Nigerians of different backgrounds may have resolved to make a concrete statement about their stand in the forthcoming General Elections in 2023.
The theme of the NBA’s Conference is Bold Transitions.
Other top politicians also in attendance at the conference were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, among others.
Speakers lined up for the seven days conference include novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who will deliver the keynote address, Kaelo Ajuluchukwu, Associate General Counsel at META, formerly Facebook, AB Mahmoud, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Abimbola Akeredolu, also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, among others.
