Thursday, March 2026 is now on record as the day pro-Nnamdi Kanu groups in unity with human rights activists, led by Omoyele Sowore, participated in a peaceful protest in Aba, calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In the early hours of the the day, members of the pro-Kanu group and other supporters gathered in parts of the commercial city, particularly around the Ariaria International Market area, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards demanding Kanu’s freedom.
Although the protesters said their campaign for Kanu’s release would “continue through peaceful means, NewsOrient reports that they were dispersed by heavily armed security officials deployed to contain the situation.
Before they were effectively dispersed, the demonstrators said: “the protest was aimed at drawing national and international attention to the continued detention of the IPOB leader.”
It would be recalled that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is serving a life term in Nigeria.
