The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, has called on all unknown gunmen operating in the Southeast zone to opt for peace by dropping their guns and negotiating with the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government of Nigeria “for better jobs and sound future.”
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, made this offer as he launched “a Food-For-Peace Programme,” which he said is designed “to tackle hunger in the Southeast.”
The Deputy Speaker, Hon Kalu, said these when he addressed journalists in Bende at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting and empowerment programme for his constituents.
Commenting on the relationship between the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria and Southeast region, Kalu said “President Bola Tinubu has been fair to the Southeast in appointments and other developmental programmes.”
A report in NewsExpress also quoted Hon Kalu as lamenting that the economy of the Southeast region “was destroyed by the effects of sit-at-home in parts of the zone.”
According to him, sit-at-home “made many investors of Southeast origin to flee the area.”
