There are indications that President Bola Tinubu may meet with the Organised Labour in Abuja this week over discussions on a new minimum wage for workers in Nigeria.

NewsOrient learnt that Mr President had already agreed to meet with the organised labour to resolve the controversy over minimum wage.

In fact, a report in Channels Television said the meeting will hold on Thursday. Channels quoting a source also said the President has invited “the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to the meeting expected to be held at the Aso Villa in the nation’s capital city.”

It would be recalled that in the course of the prolonged controversy over acceptable minimum wage for Nigeria, the Federal Government has proposed ₦62,000 but the private sector side and organised labour are demanding ₦250,000.

So, if the Thursday proposed meeting holds, Nigerians would be eager to hear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s position.

It would be recalled that in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said an executive bill on the new national minimum wage for workers would soon be sent to the National Assembly for passage.

So much have happened since then
