The Senate has backed the motion for an ad-hoc committee to help organise a new national security summit in Nigeria.

The summit will, at the end of it’s sittings, draft “a national security action document to guide legislative and operational reforms,” NewsOrient learnt.

This decision was reached during the plenary session of the upper legislative house on Tuesday.

NewsOrient reports that although some senators opposed the motion at the plenary, arguing that such summits in the past yielded little or no positive result, the Red Chamber finally backed the motion to organise a fresh national security summit that would embrace more stakeholders than what obtained in the past.

The planned summit, according to the Senate, shall include federal, state, and local governments, traditional institutions and other stakeholders who will help the country unravel the current insecurity riddle in Nigeria.

Declaring the lawmakers’ decision, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, directed that “the ad hoc committee begin preparations immediately.”
