It has been encomium for Aminat Yusuf, a law student at Lagos State University (LASU), who broke a 40 year old record in the university as she obtained a CGPA of 5.0.

LASU, ahead of its 26th convocation ceremony, announced Yusuf as the best-graduating student in 40 years with a cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0.

Among those who have publicly honoured young Aminat is Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu took to his official Twitter handle to heap praises on Yusuf while also congratulating her.

“In Lagos, we value hardwork, dedication and excellence,” the governor posted on Twitter.

“Congratulations to Aminat Yusuf, a law student at Lagos State University (LASU), for achieving a remarkable feat, being the first undergraduate in 40 years to obtain a CGPA of 5.0.

“This is truly commendable! Your dedication and hard work have paid off.

“I am also thrilled to hear about the outstanding academic achievements of 282 students who achieved first-class honours in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions.

“As a state, we will continue to reward and support academic excellence,” Sanwo-Olu tweeted.

The university said Ms Yusuf from the Faculty of Law will be rewarded with N500,000 cash prize.

The Vice Chancellor of LASU, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who disclosed this in her address at a pre-convocation press briefing said the ceremony would feature those who graduated during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.

Mrs Olatunji-Bello also noted that the university would graduate 10,183, of which 282 students obtained First Class in different fields.

She explained that Ms Yusuf tops the first-class graduates for the 2021/2022 academic session.

The VC said apart from other activities lined up for the event, the convocation lecture titled, “The Impact of Digitalisation on Higher Education in the Digital Age”, will be delivered by the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, on Tuesday, 20 June.

In the social media, not only Aminat has received public accolades for the feat.

NewsOrient Network reports that the social media platforms of Aminat’s ebullient father, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim, the Business Editor of the Weekend title of The Nation newspaper, has been bombarded by friends and well wishers who showered praises and prayers on erudite daughter and proud father.
