Fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday November 1, 2023 at the Ladipo Plank Market in Lagos.

Although no life was reportedly lost, NewsOrient reports that the fire outbreak resulted in the destruction of multi million naira goods and property.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire or when it started but some people living around the area said the fire started “very early this morning” and that by 6am help to stop it has arrived from some agencies.

We learnt some of the earliest agencies to render help included the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service, and the Federal Fire Service.

A report in TheNiche quoted the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, as saying “there was no human casualty.”

The report also quoted Oke-Osanyitolu as saying: “The agency responded to distress calls and arrived at the above scene of the incident to discover that the plank market was being gutted by fire.

“Fortunately, there is no loss of life. However, goods and property yet to be enumerated have been destroyed due to the inferno,” he said.
