FG, Labour Unions Agree On N70,000 As New National Minimum Wage

Nigerian Government and the leadership of the organised labour has currently agreed on the contentious minimum wage. The latest agreement was N70,000 minimum wage which is to be reviewed every three years.
Both the Federal Government of Nigeria and leaders of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) said the agreement was reached in the meeting labour union leaders held with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his team.
The Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, speaking on the development said the Federal Government of Nigeria and the leadership of the Organised Labour have agreed on ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
“We are happy to announce today (Thursday) that both the Organised Labour and the Federal Government have agreed on an increase on the N62,000 minimum wage. The new national minimum that Mr President is expected to submit to the National Assembly is ₦70,000,” an elated Idris told State House correspondents.
The Information Minister said this flanked by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, TUC boss Festus Osifo, Labour Minister Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and other officials from both sides.
However, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said he and other leaders of the organised labour will take the latest agreement to their members possibly for endorsement.
