– Investigation has commenced – Police Commissioner

There was loud explosion this morning in the premises housing the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade.

The affected complex is next to Lugard street, housing the Secretariat of Kogi State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

NewsOrient reports that at about 8.20 am today, Tuesday, 26th July 2022, some journalists who had resumed at the NUJ Secretariat in Lokoja, Kogi State, to prepare for today’s assignments, suddenly heard a very loud explosion at the premises housing the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

When he was later reached to comment on  the explosion, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, confirmed the explosion.

He said, “Yes, what happened was that we were informed of a package that looked like a bomb was left on the premises and I immediately deployed the bomb disposal unit there to assess the object.

“The object was immediately blown up. The explosion you heard was the handwork of our bomb disposing unit brought about by their efforts to blow up the object.”

The Punch report on the explosion said “an investigation has also commenced to ascertain what the object was.”
