The nationwide hunger protest in Nigeria, which was planned to be peaceful, recorded violence on the first day as government security Operatives shot live bullets and killed some protesters even as the angry protesters dared armed Operatives to burn APC headquarters in Jigawa State, a Local Government office in Katsina State and Tafa Local Government Secretariat in Niger State, amongst others.

NewsOrient reports that the protest was observed across the country. Inspite threats, pleadings and discouragement from both federal and state governments, Nigerians went ahead with the protest.
Those who did not join street March, stayed indoors as shops and offices were seen locked down.

By nightfall on the first day of the planned 10 days protest, about four states where the hunger protest recorded deaths and violence, including Kano, Yobe and Borno, had declared curfew as a way of averting further deterioration of the situation.
