Ebonyi House Crisis Deepens As Two Deputy Speakers Emerge

The crisis in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, which resulted from the purported “resignation” of the Deputy Speaker and his denial has deepened with the emergence of two Deputy Speakers.

This is even as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the action of the lawmakers’ leadership, which resulted in the emergence of the two deputy speakers for the Assembly.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the state PDP threatened to challenge the action in court, describing it as “an attempt to truncate democracy and rule of law.”

Hon. Tochukwu Okorie, the PDP Chairman, Ebonyi State, who briefed journalists immediately after their stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki, said the purported removal of the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly is an attempt to truncate democracy and rule of law in Ebonyi State.

He described as “impunity,” the scheme “to takeover the parliament.”

According to him, the Deputy Speaker did not commit any offence to warrant such treatment but only reaffirmed his membership of the PDP.
