Easter: FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays, Wishes Christians Peaceful Celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, April 3, 2026 and Monday, April 6, 2026 as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebrations.
April 3 is Good Friday, while April 6 is Easter Monday.
This was contained in a statement by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister.
She said the minister congratulated Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion, urging Nigerians to reflect on the virtues associated with the season of Easter.
“The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter,” the statement reads in part.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians “to imbibe virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.”
He also urged Nigerians to “remain committed to the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation.
According to the Minister, “the goal of the government remains taking decisions that will bring about national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity.”
On behalf of the Federal Government, the Minister wished all Christians “a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.”
