The host of 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire, beat Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday night to lift the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

NewsOrient reports that this year’s win is the third time Cote D’Ivoire will lift the cup.

Although Cote D’Ivoire dominated the field of play right from onset, there was high hopes in Nigeria when country’s Super Eagles opened the scoring in the 38th minute of the game through William Troost-Ekong.

The false hope was short lived as Cote d’Ivoire equalized through Kessie and went ahead to get the winning goal through Sebastian Haller in the 81st minute.
