Bribery Allegation Rocks Abia State Election Petition Tribunal
Allegation of bribery of members of Panel 1 of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal has been made by a respondent at the said Tribunal. The alleged bribery allegation is contained in a petition sent to the President of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, by the House of Representative member elect for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Chief Amobi Ogah.
In the said petition, the House of Representative member elect who defeated Nkiru Onyejiocha with a very huge margin at the 2023 General Election is seeking the transfer of the election petition filed against him by Nkiru Onyejiocha out of the said Panel 1.
Honourable Amobi posits that he has credible information of the panel members having been compromised by Nkiru Onyejiocha (the Petitioner) to deliver judgment in favour of Nkiru Onyejiocha.
Honourable Amobi cited the visit of the Tribunal Chairman to the Maitama residence of Nkiru Nyejiocha, and Nkirus several boast to her supporters that she has bought over the panel members and will soon upturn the election and declaration of Honourable Amobi. Honourable Amobi Ogah stated in the petition that he has lost confidence in getting a fair trial from Panel 1 of the tribunal and urge the president of the Court of Appeal to transfer his petition to any of the other three existing Panels of the Election Tribunal for determination.
NewsOrient Network reports that the petition, dated May 18, 2023 and addressed to the President of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, was received by the Court of Appeal President’s Chamber the same date.
