The bill to end the dichotomy between holders of Bachelors Degree (B.Sc.) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nigeria has scaled second reading at the House of Representatives.
The bill, which was sponsored by a member, Fuad Laguda from Lagos State, explains the importance of technical education.
A report monitored on Channels Television featured Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, saying “the bill sought to replace HND with Bachelor of Technology so that graduates of Polytechnics would be able to compete favourably with university graduates.”
Abbas explained that the position taken by all Boards of Polytechnics in Nigeria is “the abolition of HND and in place of it to have Bachelor of Technology so that at least graduates of Polytechnics will be able to compete with those from Universities”.
