Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s February 25, 2023 General Election today spoke on what he discovered in the documents he procured on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s academic record at Chicago State University.

NewsOrient reports that Atiku’s prayer from an American District Court to order CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records to him (Atiku) to be used as evidence at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, had generated great controversy before the prayer was finally granted and the documents released to Atiku.

Curiously, even now that the documents have been released, the controversy over its content has remained unabated.

To set the records straight, Atiku today
addressed a world press conference on the matter and other related issues.

Explaining the genesis of the controversy over Tinubu’s educational record, the former Vice President recalled that 23 years ago, fiery human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi SAN, first challenged Tinubu’s claim on his academic attainment in Chicago.

Atiku then said since he has finally received the documents, Late Fawehinmi’s spirit can now rest in peace.

On what he discovered in Tinubu’s records, Atiku asked one of his lawyers, Kalu Kalu, to address the issues.

Kalu Kalu therefore outlined the issues to include;

“The Certificate Bola Tinubu submitted to INEC did not emanate from Chicago State University.

The Qualifying Certificate from South West College used by Tinubu to gain admission to CSU, bears female, which clearly means it does not belong to him.

In the CSU documents, Tinubu attended Government College Lagos and graduated in 1970. But the said school came into existence only in 1974. It also means the Government College Lagos document is a forgery.

In the CSU document, Tinubu has American citizenship. But Tinubu swore under oath in an INEC form that he does not have any citizenship other than Nigerian citizenship.

In the CSU document, the initial ‘A’ in Tinubu’s name is Adekunle. Whereas, the ‘A’ in President Tinubu’s public record is Ahmed.

On whether or not the new evidence would be admitted by the Supreme Court, Kalu Kalu said on behalf of Atiku that in several rulings of the apex court, parties can present fresh evidence once certain conditions are met.

According to him, the court cases in the U.S. has satisfied the condition of a new requirement.
