The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has said he is not defecting to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as is being speculated by some political analyst.

He however stated that he is very close Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of APC.

Responding to question today, Friday, May 2, 2025, on whether he will ‘decamp’ to APC in order to be close to Aso Rock as some other state governors have done recently, Otti said he does not need to join the ruling All Progressives Congress to be close to Aso Rock.

“I am even close to the centre than most of the people that decamped to APC,” he said.

He added: “I am not decamping to APC. But tomorrow anything can change. But if I am going to decamp, I will have to discuss it with Abia people first.”

Gov Alex Otti said these in an interview with Arise Television on Friday, May 2, 2025.

In the interview, he also spoke on the leadership crisis in his party, the Labour Party and it’s fate, moving forward. He said: “I am not God. I cannot say if there’ll still be an LP tomorrow.”

The governor however said the National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, is “no longer the party’s leader, as his tenure had expired,” adding that “a Caretaker Committee is currently in charge of the party.”
