It took Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to come from the bench towards the tail end of the game to earn Nigeria a 1-0 win over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers today, Friday, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

With the win, the Super Eagles are at the top of Group D with 7 points ahead of Benin Republic (6), Rwanda (2) and Libya (1).

Dele-Bashiru, who saved the day, had sat on the bench until the 74th minute of the match when he was finally called to replace Alex Iwobi.

NewsOrient reports that the decision turned out to be the game changer as he, Dele-Bashiru, scored in the 86th minute.

For the Super Eagles players and their Nigerian fans, it was a rather challenging game for though the Super Eagles side clearly dominated the game from the beginning to the end of play, the Libyan side employed defensive style to cleverly wade off goals.

Their style created tension amongst Nigerian fans who felt demoralized. Their fear peaked when, before Dele-Bashiru’s 86th minute goal, the referee ruled out an earlier goal by Ademola Lookman on account of offside.
