Endless honour has continued to trail Nollywood legend, Olu Jacobs, who passed away on September 16, 2026 at the age of 84.

Since the actor’s death was confirmed by his family, who have reportedly managed dementia for some years, there has been widespread national and international mourning.

Among top government officials that have paid glowing tribute to the late actor are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself and Minister Hannatu Musawa-led national delegation who, honored him as “a towering cultural institution and a defining pillar of Nigerian entertainment.”

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie, has also shared an emotional tribute to Jacobs. He recounted what he described as “Jacobs’ Legacy,” where he spoke of Olu Jacobs’ “impact on peers,” even as he left words of strength for Olu Jacobs’ wife, Joke Silva, who herself is also a towering personality and an icon in the entertainment industry.

Recently, Africa Magic announced a special tribute documentary titled “Doyen of Nollywood: Celebrating Olu Jacobs,” directed by Femi Odugbemi, to broadcast his remarkable life and career.

A passionate professional, Olu Jacobs, fondly called the Lion of Lufodo, had a rare career experience that spanned over five decades, across British television, international cinema, and Nigerian theatre and film.

Alongside his wife, Joke Silva, Olu Jacobs helped to shape what is being described by some industry analysts as Nollywood’s Golden Era.
