All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State has zoned it’s 2027 governorship ticket slot to Abia State Central Senatorial District.

Mr Uche Aguoru, the Abia State APC Publicity Secretary, made this announcement through a press statement dated Thursday, the 30th April 2026 and marked: “2027 General Elections: APC Zones Governorship To Abia Central Senatorial District.”

The release reads ” This is to notify our esteemed members and the general public in Abia State that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has zoned its governorship ticket for the forthcoming election to Abia Central Senatorial District”.

He also stated that this notice should guide party members and intending guber aspirants in the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

According to the statement, this decision is taken in the interest of equity, justice, and fair play, and in line with the party’s commitment to balanced representation across the three senatorial zones.

Aguoru recalled: ”Since the return of democracy in 1999, Abia State has operated on an understanding of power rotation among the three zones to foster unity and inclusiveness.

”The decision is further premised on the fact that the State Chairman of the Party hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state.

It is therefore just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform,” he said.

The APC Publicity Secretary appealed to all aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect this decision of the party in the spirit of sportsmanship, urging that all should ” work together to secure victory for our great party”.

He recalled that the three past Abia State governors namely; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Theodore Orji and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, in this order, hailed from Abia North, Abia Central and Abia South districts respectively.

Already, one of the APC chieftains from Abia Central Senatorial District that has declared interest to contest for the governorship ticket of APC ahead of 2027 Elections is Chief Henry Ikoh.

Reacting to this development, Ikoh was quoted as lauding the APC decision, and as describing the decision as one “based on equity, justice and fairness.”

NewsOrient reports that Abia Central Senatorial District, from where APC plans to produce it’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 Elections, comprises Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, and Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Councils.
