Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) said on Sunday that its Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has ordered the immediate cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home directive across the Southeast, with effect from today, Monday, February 9, 2026.
In a statement, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, stated that any attempt to enforce the sit-at-home from this point forward would be considered opposition to Kanu’s orders and the Biafran cause.
“All markets, schools, offices, transport services, and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement read.
IPOB also warned of possible false-flag operations or intimidation attempts by opponents and urged citizens to remain vigilant, calm and law-abiding.
It would be recalled that the sit-at-home protest, which crippled commercial activities in the region every Monday, was instituted as a form of demonstration against Kanu’s incarceration by the Nigerian authorities.
The sit-at-home controversy regain public attention when Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo recently locked down Onitsha Main Market over the traders’ refusal to open their stores on Monday.
The market has been reopened after security assurances by the government.
In the statement, IPOB called on all Southeast residents “to resume normal activities and ensure children return to school.” It reaffirmed unity and the organisation’s focus on “freedom, dignity and justice.”
