The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, and 10 other top members, including former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose and Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s Secretary.

This is even as the party elects former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), as its National Chairman.

Before voting for the new executive commenced at the Ibadan Convention at the weekend, the party expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, from the party, for “anti-party activities.”

Also expelled at the convention were the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others.

The party also, reportedly dissolved party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

The party explained that the chieftains were expelled “for anti-party activities” and for “fostering disunity with a series of litigations against the interests of the party.”

It all began when a chieftain of the PDP, Chief Bode George, moved the motion for the expulsion of the 11 top members.

He cited as reason for the motion what he described as “activities inconsistent with the party’s collective interest”.

But moments after the expulsion of former Governor Nyesom Wike, and the 10 others at the Ibadan convention, Channels Television reports that two PDP governors – Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa) and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) — rejected the decision.

Another news medium also quoted Nyesom Wike as rejecting the expulsion through a reaction he made to the news medium through one of his aides.

Some eyewitness reports however said that the governors in attendance at the PDP Ibadan Convention, where Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu and the others were expelled include “Bala Muhammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau).”

Reports also said “Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Sim Fubara (Rivers), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba) did not attend the convention.”

However, other top PDP chieftains present at the Ibadan Convention include the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro; a former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, his Gombe counterpart, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; and the Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, among others.
