Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he resigned from his political party because of what he described as “an obvious reason.”

The governor, while officially announcing his resignation from PDP did not say the political party he would be joining. But he made it clear that he intends to take members of his government’s executive council, members of PDP at the State House of Assembly and Chairmen of the local government areas to the new political party.

“After extensive consultations, today, October 15, 2025, I wish to notify you that, in keeping with the extant protocols, I, Governor Douye Diri, do hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he announced.

It has however been speculated that Diri will join the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
