Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said that governors of the Southeast geo-political zone are working together for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Otti, who is the governor of Kanu’s home state, Abia, revealed that contrary to perceptions in some quarters, “Southeast governors have not abandoned the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

At a media parley on Thursday night in Umuahia, Governor Otti said “the Southeast governors are actively engaging relevant authorities to secure Kanu’s release.”

He however declined to give specific details of the efforts being made by them or the extent of negotiations so far, stressing instead that such public disclosure may negatively impact on the negotiations.

“Some of the engagements and assurances we have received are not for public consumption since it may derail the process. But you can take it for granted that, as his Governor, I’m at the forefront of ensuring he comes back home. All the South East governors are together in this,” said Abia State Governor Otti.

NewsOrient reports that the delay in the release of the incarcerated leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, notwithstanding several court judgements interpreted as declaring his incarceration illegal, has remained a subject of concern.
