The Director-General of World Trade Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria to focus on setting up the right safety security nets, so as to cushion effects of hardship and on how to grow the country’s economy so as to create jobs.
Commending the President and his team for stabilizing the country’s economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said the next step to take is to focus on how to set up the right safety nets so as to cushion the effects of the hardship occasioned by the government economic policies and on how to grow the economy so as to create jobs.
Asked the opinion of WTO on the handling of Nigerian economy under Tinubu, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who visited the President to brief him on WTO’s latest initiatives on women and digital economy, said: “Mr President and his team have worked hard to stabilize the economy and he has to be given credit for this.
” So, what is needed next is growth.
“We need to set up social safety nets so that people suffering as a result of the reforms will survive.
“So, how do we create social safety nets to help Nigerians to cushion the hardship they are feeling now and how do we grow the economy so as to create jobs and put more money in people’s pockets? These are the issues we discussed with Mr President, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said in Aso Rock, Abuja.
NewsOrient has reported earlier that the precise message Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala delivered to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during her recent visit to Nigeria’s seat of power has been a source of debate between government officials and their associates on one side and the opposition on the other side.
