Former Governor of Rivers State and serving Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has said he wanted Governor Simi Fubara removed from office but that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention through a declaration of state of emergency, led to Fubara’s suspension instead.
He also said that Tinubu’s action saved Rivers State from anarchy.
Speaking on Friday in Abuja during a media parley with some journalists, Wike said:
“As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers state.
“I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state.”
Many lovers of democracy across Nigeria have criticized recent happenings in Rivers State, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency and suspension of elected Governor Simi Fubara and members of Rivers House of Assembly.
